Why Are Women So Concerned With “Down There”?

The breasts and the abdomen are among the most troublesome areas that many women have insecurities about. However, there is a procedure women are having but aren’t talking about: labiaplasty. Yes! We are talking about “down there.”

A woman might undergo labiaplasty to improve her comfort and confidence when engaging in the following activities.

Wearing Tight Clothing

Many people would think the spike in labiaplasty procedures would be strictly for cosmetic reasons. However, a lot of women who undergo labial rejuvenation want to be more comfortable with their body, specifically how they fit into clothing. Some women have enlarged labia minora (inner vulvar lips) and/or enlarged labia majora (outer vulvar lips) that are irritated by or show through tight pants, swimwear, and exercise attire. Labiaplasty can be performed to remove excess tissue to reduce the size of the inner labia, outer labia, or both.

Exercising

The embarrassment of the vulva showing through the pants or bathing suits is just the start of the problems associated with enlarged labia. Having excess labial tissue can be uncomfortable and even painful when engaging in regular exercise. Some women have to avoid running and strenuous exercise because it hurts when carrying out quick movements. Once the size of the labia minora and/or labia majora are reduced, patients can feel comfortable exercising and participating in normal activities.

Getting Intimate

If exercising is painful, it isn’t surprising that excess skin and tissue in the labia minora and labia majora can cause sexual intimacy problems. Some women experience immense pain during sexual intercourse and, therefore, avoid the act altogether. Others avoid intimacy due to embarrassment about the appearance of their labia. Sexual pain and dysfunction caused by an enlarged vulva can cause issues in relationships and make it hard for a woman to get intimate entirely.

Reversing the Effects of Pregnancy

Pregnancy and childbirth can alter the female body. Many women develop stretched labia after delivering a baby naturally. Some post-pregnancy patients feel insecure about the appearance of their labia and undergo labiaplasty to restore the natural contours of the vulva. After labiaplasty, many women experience a boost in confidence and feel better about the look and function of their labia.
