Can You Combine Breast Surgery Procedures?

3 min read

Getting breast surgery is a big decision. Patients should always research the procedures they’re interested in to ensure their surgery is as safe and successful as possible.

It always helps to know as much as you can before going under the knife.

Breast surgery is primarily designed to create fuller, perky breasts, but it can also be used to reduce breasts that are uncomfortably large.

Combining different procedures can be the best way for women to get the breast shape they desire.

What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation surgery uses implants to increase the size and projection of the breasts. Fat transfer may also be used for enhancement.

The procedure is used to:

  • Increase breast fullness and projection
  • Improve body contours
  • Enhance self-image and boost confidence

Breast augmentation was the top plastic surgery procedure in 2018, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS).

What Is a Breast Lift?A young woman gets surgical lines drawn before breast surgery.

Unlike breast augmentation, breast lift surgery does not increase cup size.

It instead removes excess skin tissue to tighten and create firmer, fuller-looking breasts.

What Is Breast Reduction?

On the opposite end of the spectrum, breast reduction surgery reduces the size of heavy, large breasts.

This can help to treat problems like back pain and skin irritation, leaving behind beautifully proportionate breasts.

Why Combine Breast Surgery Procedures?

For some women, one procedure may be all they need to get the breasts the way they want.

But breasts are as unique as the women who have them. Keeping that uniqueness intact is key to crafting natural-looking results—and that may not be achievable with one procedure.

In some cases, multiple procedures performed at the same time may be needed to take care of every cosmetic concern and get women the breasts they want.

There is more than one benefit to performing multiple procedures at the same time.

An implant that is used for breast augmentation to increase the size and shape of a woman's breast.1. It Avoids Repeat Visits

It might sound daunting, but combining procedures can be a great way to avoid going through multiple surgeries.

In fact, breast lift surgery is commonly performed alongside breast implant surgery for the best results.

It’s also done alongside breast reduction surgery, which often leaves extra skin behind as breast tissue is reduced.

2. Results Look More Natural

Performing procedures together addresses multiple cosmetic concerns—breast size, shape, texture, and the removal of extra skin—in a much more effective manner.

This allows Dr. Alexander the flexibility to craft a truly unique, natural breast appearance.

3. Healing Is Easier

Recovering from breast surgery can take several weeks, with patients typically dealing with swelling and discomfort as their bodies heal.

Patients will need to wear compression garments or a support bra as they recover.

Most breast surgery procedures involve at least six to eight weeks’ recovery time.

Incisions, however, can take several months to fade. So why prolong the process even more by undergoing separate procedures?

Butt’s Not To Like About BBL? The Benefits of Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

It seems like the last few years have been all about the booty. More people than ever want a curvier bottom, as evidenced by the growing number of patients turning to cosmetic surgery to get the round shape they desire.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), over $100 million was spent on buttock augmentation surgery in 2018. Of these, over 90 percent were done via fat transfer, more commonly known as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).

Despite its name, BBL is less about lifting and more about giving the booty a natural boost. Using an approach that sculpts and shapes as much as it enhances, more patients are seeing for themselves what BBL has to offer.

What is BBL?

A Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, is a commonly used term for a fat grafting procedure where fat is transferred to the buttocks from another area of the body, resulting in a rounder, curvier bottom.

Arrows pointing at buttocks and abdomen referencing to a brazilian butt lift procedure

Diagram of a BBL

How BBL Works

Dr. Alexander uses liposuction to remove unwanted fat from the body, typically from areas such as the abdomen, back, thighs, or hips, where pockets of fat tend to accumulate.

Once the fat is removed, it is put through a purification process before Dr. Alexander injects it back into the upper buttocks. Fat transfers are done at strategic locations and different depths, which ensures the fat is distributed as naturally as possible.

The procedure’s approach to buttock enhancement is twofold: by removing fat from unwanted areas, Dr. Alexander essentially contours the body to make the butt area more noticeable before the fat itself is transferred back, naturally helping to increase the volume of the buttocks.

Recovery and Results

Recovery from BBL surgery can take between six and eight weeks. There will be swelling and bruising immediately afterward, but any discomfort may be managed with pain medication and a compression garment.

Patients will be unable to sit directly on their buttocks for at least eight weeks after surgery to prevent too much pressure on the fat grafts. Strenuous activity, such as exercise, will need to be avoided for at least six weeks.

Results tend to be immediately apparent, with a visible increase seen right away. Some fat will be absorbed back into the body without any enhancing effect, and it may take up to a year to see final results. All enhancement are designed to be long lasting.

BBL Vs. Traditional Butt Augmentation

BBL and traditional butt augmentation surgery, which typically involves the use of implants to enhance butt shape, are both on the rise as more people seek a curvier bottom. But BBL offers a unique set of advantages over implants or other surgical methods:

Half-turned photo of a woman model to her backside wearing white underwear

Half-turned photo of ideal beautiful woman’s backside wearing white underwear.

No Risk of Rejection

Traditional butt augmentation surgery uses implants to enhance the shape of the butt. While effective, implants always carry a slight risk of rejection because they are a foreign object.

Complications like capsular contracture, where scar tissue starts to harden and constrict around the implant, may occur with traditional surgery.

With BBL, these risks turn to zero as the patient’s own fat is used for enhancement. There’s no chance the body will reject its own cells as they’re transferred back.

Natural-Looking Enhancement

BBL surgery tends to offer patients the most natural-looking results—largely because it uses the patient’s own fat and tissues to enhance body contours. Dr. Alexander removes unwanted pockets of fat from the body, immediately smoothing body outlines and contours.

That fat is then added back into the buttocks in a gradual, deliberate process that ensures the increase looks as natural as possible—a process that’s not always possible with traditional surgery. Implants may also slide or move over time, resulting in an unnatural-looking shape.

Faster and Easier Recovery

Both BBL and traditional butt augmentation surgery will take patients several weeks to fully recover from, but BBL may arguably result in an easier healing process overall.

Since there’s no chance of tissue rejection, BBL recovery tends to proceed faster than traditional butt augmentation. There may be no need for surgical drains, which are often needed after implants. Side effects, like swelling and pain, also tend to subside faster.

Because BBL uses liposuction for fat transfer, it essentially removes the need for added procedures to sculpt other areas of the body. Patients will only need to go through the healing process once and get a beautiful, natural-looking curvy bottom.

A Quick Guide to Liposuction For Men

In today’s image-obsessed culture, more men than ever are turning to cosmetic surgery to reach their body goals.

Statistics from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) show liposuction to be the top procedure sought by men in 2018, followed by male breast reduction. These numbers are only expected to grow as attitudes towards cosmetic surgery continue to change.

For men, liposuction can address areas that stubbornly remain flabby despite hard work and healthy living.

How Liposuction Works

As the name implies, liposuction suctions out and removes unwanted fat from different areas of the face, neck, and body. It uses tiny surgical tubes, called cannulas, and a special surgical vacuum or large syringe to remove fat.

Suction assisted liposuction process

General anesthesia is used to keep patients comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Alexander starts by creating small incisions in the areas to be treated, and the cannula is inserted.

From there, Dr. Alexander will use the vacuum device to remove all unwanted fat. Once done, the incisions will be closed off with sutures.

Liposuction recovery can take a few weeks as swelling and bruising dissipate. There will be some discomfort right after surgery, but most patients are able to go back to work after one week. A compression garment will be needed to ensure faster healing.

Liposuction results in nearly permanent fat removal from the treated areas. Body contours are improved, and treated areas all look and feel firmer and more defined. As long as men keep their weight level and stay in good shape, liposuction results will last for years.

Men and Liposuction

For men, liposuction is a particularly effective way to define masculine body contours. Men tend to have firmer skin than women because their skin retains elasticity longer. Because of this, liposuction often ends up being an extremely effective treatment in removing unwanted fat without leaving too much loose skin behind.

Liposuction can be used to target stubborn pockets of fat that often accumulate with age. Most men target their abdominal area, but liposuction may also treat unwanted fat that accumulates under the chin, arms, and neck.

Emerging Trends

The “Daddy Do-Over” recently enjoyed its moment in the limelight as an increasingly popular method of getting dads the body of their dreams. Despite its focus on dads, the procedure speaks to the larger trend of men seeking surgery, like liposuction, to improve their appearance.

Of the many cosmetic procedures performed last year, more than 1.3 million were done on men alone, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Liposuction is at the top of the list, but other procedures include facelifts, eyelid lifts, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and others.

Clearly, men want to look and feel their best. Cosmetic surgery helps achieve these goals, and liposuction for men is just one part of a larger trend.

Sculpting Body Contours

Liposuction is great for men who want to trim their physique but continue to struggle with areas of fat that just won’t go away. Age and lifestyle changes can often leave men with unwanted fat that, over time, starts to drastically affect how the body shape looks.

For men, this usually affects the torso and abdomen. Having a round middle or “love handles” along the side can contribute to looking older, tired, and in “bad shape,” despite otherwise being in good health.

Liposuction may be used together with other procedures, like a tummy tuck, to further tone and define these areas for a traditionally masculine physique.

Summer Face Guide: What Are the Best Facial Surgery Procedures for Summer?

Ah, summer. For most of us, summer means vacation: long days under the sun, hanging out at the beach, and barbecues on hot summer nights.

But what we are not thinking about during these vacations are the damaging effects that the sun’s UV rays can have on our skin. While they are not immediately noticeable, the effects of the sun can surface years later. In addition, time and genetics can also gradually dull skin, contributing even more to an aged appearance.

The summer season is a great opportunity to give yourself some TLC and refresh your appearance. Cosmetic surgeries like a facelift or brow lift can erase years of damage from your face to create a beautiful appearance that you can enjoy throughout those dog days of summer.

Facelift Surgery

Facelift surgery helps to improve the appearance by removing excess skin and fat and tightening facial muscles.

Patients who have loose, sagging skin along the midface or jawline, or other issues that create an aged appearance, are good candidates for facelift surgery. Patients should be in good general health before the procedure.

There are a few different techniques Dr. Alexander offers for patients seeking a facelift:

Full Facelift

Dr. Alexander creates an incision at the hairline that goes around and under the ear to remove excess tissue and fat. The facial muscles and skin are then pulled tight. This technique is used to address extensive aging along the midface, lower face, and neck.

Mini Facelift

This technique is very similar to the full facelift but uses smaller incisions to target only the midface. This technique is a good option for patients with fewer signs of aging and little to no issues in the neck area.

Neck Lift

Dr. Alexander makes an incision behind the ear, around the earlobe, and into the lower scalp to remove excess fat and tighten muscles along the neck. This technique is performed together with a full facelift.

Brow Lift and Eyelid Lift Surgery

The forehead and eye areas are often where aging first begins to appear. Deep creases along the forehead and crow’s feet, under-eye bags, and dark circles give off an aged and tired look, no matter how much sleep you get.

A brow lift procedure can help smooth creases and tighten sagging or drooping along the forehead, while an eyelid lift surgery is expressly designed to brighten up the eye area.

Patients who are in good health and are concerned about deep forehead creases, sagging skin, drooping eyelids, or other signs of aging along the forehead and eye area can greatly benefit from these two procedures, which are often performed together for optimal results.

Brow Lift

Dr. Alexander creates incisions along the hairline and temple area to lift drooping skin along the top of the eyebrow. He then performs a coronal brow lift, which uses an incision in the hairline from ear to ear, to tighten the brow muscles and remove extra skin.

Eyelid Lift

Dr. Alexander can use two different options to best treat each patient. The upper eyelid lift uses incisions in the natural creases of the upper eyelids to remove excess tissue. This method is particularly useful for drooping or sagging eyelids and causes virtually no scarring.

With a lower eyelid lift, Dr. Alexander will instead put incisions on the lower eyelids before tightening up surrounding skin and muscle.

Results and Recovery: What to Plan for This Summer

Dr. Alexander will provide instructions on how to care for surgical sites following a facelift, brow lift, eyelid lift, or a combination of all procedures to ensure patients heal beautifully.

Pain medication and bandages will be used after surgery to keep discomfort at a minimum. Strenuous activity or exercise should be avoided for a few weeks, but most patients can return to work in about a week.

Facial surgery procedures typically only require a week to a few weeks to heal, depending on each patient. This can make the summertime an ideal period to plan for surgery. Exposure to the sun, however, should be limited and sun protection used right after surgery to better finalize healing and minimize the appearance of scarring.

On the Nose: How Rhinoplasty Can Improve Facial Appearance

The nose is one of our most defining features—its size and shape can alter the harmony of the entire face. With such high stakes, it’s no surprise that rhinoplasty continues to be one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available.

Over 200,000 rhinoplasties were performed in 2018, making it one of the top five cosmetic procedures in the country. The procedure is used to create a slimmer, smoother nose that fits in beautifully with the rest of the features for a more attractive appearance.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Commonly referred to as a nose job, rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that enhances and reshapes the nose, typically to get it in better proportion with the rest of the face.

Dr. Alexander will work closely with patients to address any specific problems and craft a beautiful-looking nose that fits naturally with their face. Rhinoplasty may also be combined with other procedures, like a facelift, to get patients the look they want.

What Can Rhinoplasty Do?

Rhinoplasty is used to correct various issues that affect the appearance of the nose, such as:

Nasal asymmetry: A nose that sits in an abnormal position or appears to be crooked or bent.

Bumps on nasal bridge: Bumps or humps that cause the entire nose to protrude or create the appearance of a “hooked” or curved nose.

Depressions on nasal bridge: Defects that flatten the nasal bridge and affect the shape of the nose, particularly the profile. A depression can occur as a result of birth defects or a nose injury.

Large or upturned nostrils: A nasal tip that turns up instead of downwards and causes nostrils to look wider, more visible, or too big for the rest of the nose.

Bulbous or fleshy nasal tip: A nasal tip that is excessively large and round that creates the appearance of a bulb at the end of the nose.

Rhinoplasty is also performed to adjust defects in nasal structure that cause problems with breathing. One common condition is a deviated septum, a condition where the septum (thin wall between the nasal passages) is displaced to one side, obstructing one or both of the airways.

Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Patients seeking to correct cosmetic problems on their nose and restore facial balance can benefit from rhinoplasty. Ideal candidates should be in good general health. Patients who smoke must quit for at least four weeks before the procedure.

Rhinoplasty can be completely transforming. Patients who are realistic about their goals for rhinoplasty are good candidates for the procedure and will often be satisfied with their outcome.

Dr. Alexander also offers a specialized technique for transgender patients who desire a more feminine-looking facial appearance called a feminizing rhinoplasty.

How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Dr. Alexander will usually put patients under general anesthesia to perform rhinoplasty on an outpatient basis. After anesthesia is administered, Dr. Alexander will then use incisions to gain access to the tissue and cartilage that need to be reshaped.

Incisions are made across the columella (the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils) or inside the nose. If the patient has a deviated septum, Dr. Alexander will straighten it to improve breathing.

After structuring the nose to the desired shape and size, Dr. Alexander will then redrape skin and tissue before closing up the incisions.

What Can I Expect After Rhinoplasty?

Patients will have to use a bandage and splint on their nose immediately after the procedure is complete, which will remain in place for at least a few days to help with swelling. There will be some discomfort as the site heals, especially in the first few days of recovery.

Dr. Alexander will give patients instructions on how to manage the site and prescribe medication to deal with the worst of the pain and discomfort. Most patients are able to return to work after about a week.

Rhinoplasty results are long-lasting, but it may take weeks or even months for the final results to be apparent. As nasal contours completely refine and healing is completed, however, the new shape of the nose should be permanent.

Smaller Breasts for Better Comfort

Breast augmentation is a very popular surgical procedure that many women undergo to achieve their desired breast size. However, some patients are beginning to prefer smaller breasts. These women no longer feel satisfied with their large, voluminous bustline and would rather have natural-looking breasts that fit their frame better. Fortunately, plastic surgery procedures, such as breast revision and breast reduction, can help you achieve your goals by reshaping and reducing the size of your breasts.

woman in sports bra-lean figure-img-blog

What Is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery, also called reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to remove excess fat and glandular tissue to create smaller and more shapely breasts while alleviating the pain associated with breasts that are too heavy. During your surgery, an incision is made around the areola that extends down to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision is made along the fold. Excess tissue and skin are then removed, and the incisions are closed.

What Is Breast Revision Surgery?

Breast revision is performed by removing the breast implants through the original incision, if possible, which can be along the breast crease, around the areola, or through the armpits. New saline or silicone breast implants can also be placed through the same incision. Both breast revision and breast reduction surgery can be combined with breast lift surgery to reposition your breasts for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates interested in undergoing plastic surgery to reduce the size of their breasts must be in good overall health and have realistic expectations regarding their results. If you are an active smoker, you will be asked to quit smoking for a few weeks before and after your surgery. You may also be a candidate for breast reduction or breast revision if you struggle with one or more of the following issues:

  • Unsatisfied with your current breast size
  • Shoulder irritation from bra straps
  • Implant complications
  • Skin rashes underneath the breast crease

Other Reasons for Breast Surgery

Lifestyle Changes

Whether their breasts are naturally large or have been enhanced using breast implants, some women wish to minimize the size of their breasts due to lifestyle changes. Many patients find that having large breasts inhibits their ability to stay active. Others may have experienced pregnancy or weight fluctuations that have changed the overall appearance of their breasts and body.

Patients can reduce the size and shape of their breasts by having their implants removed or replaced with smaller implants during breast revision surgery. For those with excess breast tissue, breast reduction surgery can also reduce the size and shape of the breasts to create a more petite bustline.

Breast Complications

Many women with overly large breasts feel that their breasts are too heavy. The weight of them can cause neck, shoulder, and back pain. Breast reduction surgery can provide women relief by removing excess tissue.

Other women who have breast implants may need to undergo breast revision surgery due to complications like implant rupture or capsular contracture that have occurred. After having their affected implants removed, some women decide to have smaller implants placed during a secondary procedure to accentuate their figure and improve their overall lifestyle.

For more information about breast revision or breast reduction surgery, you can contact our office at (954) 589-0722 or schedule a virtual consultation with us online today!

Plastic Surgery Is Not Just for Women

As time progresses, more men are becoming concerned about their appearance and opting for plastic surgery. Although many people believe surgery only caters to women, men feel just as insecure and embarrassed about their bodies as women do. Whether it is addressing excess fat on the abdomen or enhancing the chest, men also aspire to look and feel their best. Fortunately, Dr. Alexander offers a variety of surgical procedures for men to improve their physique and help them restore their self-image.

Man With Plastic Surgery Lines Drawn on Face

Reasons for Surgery

Over time, men can develop unflattering changes to their figure just as women do. Plenty of men who have lost a significant amount of weight can often struggle with stubborn fat depots and excess skin along their abdomen. Others may feel self-conscious about their feminine-looking chest and desire one that is more flat and sculpted.

Although diet and exercise may work on some people, sometimes all that hard work and effort at the gym will have little to no effect and can discourage a man. This can also make them feel concerned about their body image. Bodily imperfections can be especially frustrating for men who believe they are expected by society to maintain a more muscular physique by having a toned appearance or big, broad shoulders. Thankfully, many plastic surgery procedures can help a man regain a more youthful look as well as boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Your Male Plastic Surgery Options

Gynecomastia Surgery

Many men struggle with a condition called gynecomastia, which is the overdevelopment of glandular tissue that can cause the appearance of female-like breasts. Although some men have gotten rid of their enlarged breasts through diet and exercise, others may not be able to reach their goals without surgery. Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction surgery, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and tissue from the chest to produce a more firm and toned appearance. Gynecomastia surgery involves one or a combination of the following methods:

  • Liposuction: Liposuction is ideal for men with excess fat but no sagging breast skin. Liposuction requires the use of a cannula that is hooked up to a vacuum device to suction out the fat.
  • Periareolar incision: This method works best for men with moderately large breasts. An incision will be made around each areola as excess skin and glandular tissue are removed.
  • Double incision: This incision is ideal for men who have excessive amounts of skin, fat, and tissue. Incisions will be made around the areolas to contour the area, and the areolas are relocated to a higher and more youthful position.

Pectoral Implants

Most patients may discover they are unable to attain a more masculine chest contour no matter how hard they try to lose weight. Pectoral implants are made out of silicone and add more definition to the chest. During your procedure, an incision will be placed along each armpit near the edge of the pectoral muscles. Tunnels are then made to insert the implants, and the incisions are closed using surgical sutures.

Three Images of Men Explaining the Benefits of Male Plastic Surgery

Sometimes excess fat can begin to develop in stubborn areas of the body that can be difficult to eliminate. In addition to being utilized during gynecomastia surgery, liposuction can produce a more defined and slim figure by removing fat in other areas of the body. This includes:

  • Back
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Arms

Accentuate Your Brows With Surgery

As we age, the skin on our face can begin to develop unwanted wrinkles and fine lines that can make a person look older than they are. While many patients tend to focus on reducing the appearance of imperfections along their midface, they may not realize that the upper face needs just as much attention. Over time, the muscles around the eyes and forehead can become weak, resulting in loose and sagging skin. This can cause the eyebrows to droop and make a person look tired and worn out. Brow lift surgery can take years off your face by rejuvenating your facial appearance and restoring youthfulness to the eyebrows and forehead.

confident young woman looking forward-img-blog

What Is Brow Lift Surgery?

Brow lift surgery is a procedure that repositions and tightens the eyebrow muscles to a more youthful position on the face. It can also address visible signs of aging on the forehead by smoothing out the skin, providing you with a more alert facial appearance. This procedure can be performed on its own or combined with other plastic surgery procedures, such as facelift surgery or blepharoplasty, to rejuvenate your overall facial structure. You may be an ideal candidate if you are experiencing one or more of the following issues:

  • Horizontal lines along the forehead
  • Vertical creases and wrinkles between the eyebrows
  • Sagging brows hooding the upper eyelids
  • Furrows beneath the eyebrows
  • A tired, worn out, or angry expression

Benefits of Brow Lift Surgery

More Youthful Eye Appearance

Heavy, sagging skin that droops over the eyebrows can make a person look as though they are always fatigued or angry. Brow lift surgery can reposition your brow and forehead muscles to tighten and lift the eyebrows to a more youthful position. By addressing your drooping and sagging brows, a brow lift can brighten your overall facial appearance and improve your self-esteem.

Reducing Forehead and Brow Wrinkles

As we age, the stretching of tissues that can lead to drooping eyebrows. Vertical and horizontal lines and wrinkles across our forehead may also develop due to constantly raising the brows. Brow lift surgery will smooth out visible wrinkles as well as eliminate vertical frown lines in between the eyes.

Eliminating Vision Impairment

Drooping brows due to excess skin can obscure your vision, making it difficult for you to see where you’re going or enjoy activities like reading. This can also disrupt the skin along your eyelids and cause discomfort. Brow lift surgery can lift the skin that interferes with your vision and provide you with a more flattering appearance.

Brow Lift: Recovery Guide

Your Recovery

Following your brow lift surgery, you will be asked to wear surgical bandages along the treated area to protect your new brows and reduce swelling. Swelling and bruising will continue to occur for a few weeks, but this is only temporary and will resolve shortly after. You may also experience some minor to moderate pain as your eyebrows recover. This can be controlled with pain medicine that will be prescribed to you by your surgeon. Most patients will be able to return to work 10 days after their surgery unless instructed otherwise by their surgeon.

How to Properly Take Care of Your New Brows

To ensure your results last as long as possible, it is important that you follow these simple steps during your recovery period. Making sure you take proper care of your new appearance can reduce any complications that may arise and give you the brows you have always desired.

Stay Out of the Sun

Overexposure to sunlight without applying the proper amount of sunscreen will not only burn your face, but it can cause severe damage to the skin. The sun’s harmful UV rays can cause your skin to develop unwanted facial wrinkles and lines, especially along the eyebrows. Be sure you avoid direct exposure to the sun as much as possible. If you plan on being outside, protect your new brows by gentle applying sunscreen around the treated area and wear protective clothing like a large hat and sunglasses to block the sun from your face.

Avoid Strenuous Activities

It is important that you set aside as much time as possible from work to get the amount of rest you need during your recovery. That being said, activities that cause your brows to sweat should be avoided for a few weeks. Your incisions need time to close so they can heal. Sweating along the brows may affect your recovery and can even cause infection along the treated area. Should you sweat, gently clean your eyebrows using a soft rag and lightly dab the area with warm water.

Follow Up With Your Surgeon

While recovering from brow lift surgery is not as extensive as facelift surgery, it is essential that you follow up with your surgeon at least one week after your procedure. During your follow-up appointment, your surgeon will confirm that your brows are healing properly.

To learn more about brow lift surgery and to determine if you are an ideal candidate, you can call our office at (954) 589-0722 or (305) 756-8743. You may also schedule a consultation with us online today!

Embracing Your True Self With Gender Reassignment Surgery

Many people begin to feel unhappy with the appearance of their bodies as they age. One of the main reasons a person undergoes plastic surgery is to restore their confidence and self-esteem by enhancing their physical appearance. While some patients want to rid themselves of certain imperfections like wrinkles and unwanted fat, there are others who wish to change their identity completely.

Transgender patients wanting their inner identity to be reflected by what is shown on the outside can embrace their true self with gender reassignment surgery. Gender reassignment surgery is a series of surgical procedures that can help trans men and women finally embrace their true gender identity.

transgender and silhouettes of man and woman of wood-img-blog

What Is Gender Dysphoria

Gender dysphoria is a condition that causes a person to feel as though their identity does not match that of their assigned sex, which can cause medically significant distress. Typically, once a patient has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria by a mental health professional, they can move on to create their real persona.

What You Need to Know Before Surgery

Before undergoing any surgical procedure, all trans patients must:

  • Attain medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria
  • Have completed at least one year of hormone therapy
  • Lived in the desired gender role for one year

Hormone treatment is required to help each patient produce some of the physical and emotional characteristics of their internal gender. After meeting these requirements, patients may decide to seek plastic surgery to complete their transition.

Required Steps Before Your Gender Reassignment Surgery

Your Sex Reassignment Surgery

Whether male-to-female (MTF) or female-to-male (FTM), many patients who have undergone surgery find relief knowing their outside gender appearance matches their inner selves.

Trans women looking to transform their masculine appearance can look into male-to-female (MTF) sex reassignment surgery. This procedure will concentrate on creating female characteristics in the breasts, body, and face through the following methods:

  • Breast augmentation: Can provide trans women with full female breasts using saline or silicone breast implants.
  • Brazilian Butt Lift: Uses the patient’s fat to add volume and curves to their buttocks for a more feminine shape.
  • Rhinoplasty: Can change the size and shape of the nose to produce a refined tip and narrower nasal structure for a more feminine appearance.

Trans men can opt for female-to-male (FTM) sex reassignment surgery to help them achieve more masculine features by sculpting the face and body using the following surgical procedures:

  • Breast tissue removal: Will remove fatty tissue and excess skin from the breasts using a periareolar incision (around the outside edge of the areola) or a double incision with free nipple grafts.
  • Pectoral implants: Can enhance the chest by giving them more masculine chest contours by inserting semi-solid silicone implants through a small incision in each armpit.
  • Liposuction: Removes fat in the abdomen, hips, and thighs to eliminate feminine curves.

To learn more about gender reassignment surgery and to determine if you are an ideal candidate, please call our Broward office at (954) 589-0722 or our Miami/Dade office at (305) 756-8743.

Liposuction vs. Smartlipo™

The way you feel about your body can have a significant impact on your self-esteem. Patients who feel unsatisfied with their physical appearance, especially those with localized fat deposits that are unresponsive to a healthy lifestyle, usually consider undergoing surgery. Most patients want the latest technology when choosing the technique that will best help them meet their body goals. Fortunately, there are several surgical procedures available to improve your body contours, such as Smartlipo™ and liposuction.

Both Smartlipo™ and liposuction can address stubborn fat to provide you with a slimmer and more attractive physique. However, the choice between the two may depend on the level of correction you need and the results you desire.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. It can target almost any area of the body, depending on the amount of correction needed as well as your personal preference. This procedure vacuums out unwanted fat through a gentle suctioning process using a cannula from several trouble spots, including the abdomen, arms, flanks, back, thighs, and hips.

For the Best Liposuction Results, Patients Should:

  • Diet and exercise before their procedure
  • Follow a healthy diet
  • Exercise regularly
  • Not smoke before or after surgery
  • Follow care instructions before and after surgery

What Is Smartlipo™?

Smartlipo™ is a laser-assisted liposuction technique that uses heat to liquefy fat, making it easier for your surgeon to remove.

A tumescent solution containing a local anesthetic is injected before lipolysis to allow the targeted area to become swollen and firm. The surgeon will then remove the fat without putting too much strain on the body, which results in less bruising.

Benefits of Smartlipo ™

Permanently Removes Fat Cells

Smartlipo™ can permanently destroy and remove fat cells in various areas of the body. Because of this, there is no need to undergo repeated treatments. Therefore, patients who maintain their weight with diet and exercise can enjoy long-lasting results for many years.

Tightens Loose Skin

The heat used to liquefy the fat cells can also help promote collagen production and tighten loose, flabby skin. In this way, Smartlipo™ can provide patients with smooth, beautifully shaped curves.

Maintaining your Results
