As we get older, the face also ages by developing wrinkles and sagging skin. To restore a more youthful facial appearance, many individuals often undergo facelift surgery. Although the traditional facelift improves various aspects of the face, not every patient is in need of total facial rejuvenation. It is for this reason that Dr. Timothy Alexander offers the mid-facelift procedure at his South Florida practice.
Candidates for this procedure are in good physical and emotional health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of their procedure. Potential patients should not smoke or take any anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, as they can cause complications during surgery. Individuals who desire a mid-facelift should undergo the procedure to eliminate one or more of the following conditions:
- Wrinkled lower eyelids
- Creases around the nose and mouth
- Sagging skin in the cheeks
A mid-facelift procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia and usually takes about one hour to complete. Dr. Alexander will make incisions in the hairline that extend around the ear. After excess skin and fat is excised, the remaining skin is pulled taught to a higher position, revealing a more youthful and alert appearance. Sutures are then used to close the incisions.
During your consultation, Dr. Alexander will consider your personal preferences and evaluate your medical history to determine if a mid-facelift can be beneficial for you.
Once the procedure is complete, the face will be wrapped with bandages to reduce swelling and bruising. Even though swelling and discomfort are expected during the first few days, prescribed medication can be taken to alleviate these symptoms. Most patients will be able to return to work about a week after surgery, but strenuous activities and exercises should be avoided for the first couple weeks to avoid complicating the recovery process.
