Plastic Surgery Is Not Just for Women

As time progresses, more men are becoming concerned about their appearance and opting for plastic surgery. Although many people believe surgery only caters to women, men feel just as insecure and embarrassed about their bodies as women do. Whether it is addressing excess fat on the abdomen or enhancing the chest, men also aspire to look and feel their best. Fortunately, Dr. Alexander offers a variety of surgical procedures for men to improve their physique and help them restore their self-image.

Reasons for Surgery

Over time, men can develop unflattering changes to their figure just as women do. Plenty of men who have lost a significant amount of weight can often struggle with stubborn fat depots and excess skin along their abdomen. Others may feel self-conscious about their feminine-looking chest and desire one that is more flat and sculpted.

Although diet and exercise may work on some people, sometimes all that hard work and effort at the gym will have little to no effect and can discourage a man. This can also make them feel concerned about their body image. Bodily imperfections can be especially frustrating for men who believe they are expected by society to maintain a more muscular physique by having a toned appearance or big, broad shoulders. Thankfully, many plastic surgery procedures can help a man regain a more youthful look as well as boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Gynecomastia Surgery

Many men struggle with a condition called gynecomastia, which is the overdevelopment of glandular tissue that can cause the appearance of female-like breasts. Although some men have gotten rid of their enlarged breasts through diet and exercise, others may not be able to reach their goals without surgery. Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction surgery, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and tissue from the chest to produce a more firm and toned appearance. Gynecomastia surgery involves one or a combination of the following methods:

  • Liposuction: Liposuction is ideal for men with excess fat but no sagging breast skin. Liposuction requires the use of a cannula that is hooked up to a vacuum device to suction out the fat.
  • Periareolar incision: This method works best for men with moderately large breasts. An incision will be made around each areola as excess skin and glandular tissue are removed.
  • Double incision: This incision is ideal for men who have excessive amounts of skin, fat, and tissue. Incisions will be made around the areolas to contour the area, and the areolas are relocated to a higher and more youthful position.

Pectoral Implants

Most patients may discover they are unable to attain a more masculine chest contour no matter how hard they try to lose weight. Pectoral implants are made out of silicone and add more definition to the chest. During your procedure, an incision will be placed along each armpit near the edge of the pectoral muscles. Tunnels are then made to insert the implants, and the incisions are closed using surgical sutures.

Liposuction

Sometimes excess fat can begin to develop in stubborn areas of the body that can be difficult to eliminate. In addition to being utilized during gynecomastia surgery, liposuction can produce a more defined and slim figure by removing fat in other areas of the body. This includes:

  • Back
  • Thighs
  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Arms
